Know your numbers before you quote, invoice, or borrow.

ClearRate is a small set of free calculators for freelancers and small-business owners in the United States. No sign-up, no download, and no jargon. Enter a few numbers, get a clear answer, and read the plain-English explanation underneath so you know what the answer means — and what it does not mean.

Start with your freelance rate

The calculators

Freelance Rate Calculator

Turn the salary you want into an hourly rate that actually covers your expenses, your time off, and a profit margin. Most freelancers undercharge because they divide a salary by 2,080 hours — and forget that a freelancer is not billable for all of them.

Invoice & Take-Home Pay Calculator

A $5,000 invoice is not $5,000 in your pocket. Fees, expenses, and taxes come out first. This calculator shows each deduction line by line, so you can see exactly what you keep — and set aside enough for tax before you spend it.

See what you keep →

Loan Payment Calculator

Work out the monthly payment on a business loan, equipment loan, or personal loan, and see the total interest you will pay over the life of the loan. A small change in rate or term can cost — or save — thousands of dollars.

Salary to Hourly Converter

What is a $75,000 salary worth per hour? It depends on your hours and your time off. This converter turns a salary into an hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly rate — with vacation and holidays counted, not ignored.

Quarterly Tax Estimator

Nobody withholds tax from freelance pay. Estimate your quarterly payment — federal income tax, self-employment tax, and state tax — and see how much to set aside each month so the deadline never hurts.

How to use this site

  1. Pick the question you actually have. Pricing a project? Use the freelance rate calculator. Checking an invoice? Use the take-home pay calculator. Comparing loans? Use the loan payment calculator. Comparing a salary with freelance work? Use the salary to hourly converter. Working out tax? Use the quarterly tax estimator.
  2. Enter honest numbers. A calculator is only as good as its inputs. Use your real expenses, real billable hours, and a realistic tax rate — not the numbers you wish were true.
  3. Read the worked example. Every tool page walks through one full example, step by step, so you can check the math and adapt it to your own situation.
  4. Read the article behind the tool. The guides explain the judgment calls a calculator cannot make: how to raise your rate, how much tax to set aside, and when a shorter loan term is worth the higher payment.

Guides

Why these five tools?

Freelancers and small-business owners make the same five money decisions over and over: what to charge, what they actually keep, what borrowing really costs, what a salary is worth per hour, and how much tax to set aside. Get any one of them wrong and the business looks profitable on paper while the bank account quietly shrinks. A rate that is too low means working more hours for less money. An invoice that looks generous can leave too little after tax. A loan with a low monthly payment can cost far more in total interest than a shorter loan with a higher payment. A salary that looks generous can be worth less per hour than freelance work once the hours and benefits are counted. And tax that is never set aside arrives all at once, in April, as a bill you cannot pay.

These calculators do not replace an accountant or a financial adviser. They are a starting point: a fast, honest estimate you can use in a client conversation, a budget, or a loan comparison — and a reason to ask a professional the right questions before you sign anything. Every result on this site is an estimate, not financial advice. See the disclaimer on each tool page.

Your numbers stay on your device

All five calculators run entirely in your browser. The numbers you type are not sent to a server, stored, or shared. That is a deliberate choice: your salary target, your tax rate, and your loan amount are your business.
